Search Tips
Search Keys: Enter the keywords in which you wish to locate content indexed by LawPeriscope. By default, LawPeriscope
implements the Boolean AND syntax and will return only pages where ALL the keywords entered appear. Adding the plus sign (+) in front of each keyword entered will also
achieve the same results.
Location: Select the location within the indexed HTML documents where the entered keywords must appear. By default, LawPeriscope searches within the entire HTML document.
After conducting a search using the Advanced Search box above, you will see that when selecting various search locations, a special syntax can be used in the default search box on LawPeriscope
to conduct your search ONLY against specified sections of HTML documents:
For example, to search for the keyword "lawyer" in specific sections, when not using the Advanced Search Box, structure your query as such:
Title: t:lawyer
Description: d:lawyer
URL: u:lawyer
If you wish to search in multiple locations at once, the Advanced Search box must be used.
Location: Select which datasource to search against. By default, your initial search will be conducted against "All Law Firm Websites" indexed within the LawPeriscope engine.
Additionally, you may choose to search against the contents of LawPeriscope.com exclusively.
Quoted Phrase: Selecting "Yes" will only return search results where the keywords entered in the search box exist on a page in the EXACT order in which they are typed.
By default, keywords entered in the search box are not treated as a quoted phrase, resulting in pages being returned where they keywords exist anywhere within the document.
When not using the Advanced Search box, simply append quotes " " around the keywords within the search box that must exist in the exact order typed. Also, when not using the Advanced Search box, you may enter
a combination of quoted and non-quoted phrases:
"west coast" law firms
Excluded Keys: Enter keywords that must NOT exist within a particular document when returning the search results. When not using the Advanced Search box, entering
a minus sign (-) in front of a particular keyword will achieve the same results:
"west coast" law firms -california
Results: Select the total number of result pages you wish to have returned.
Search Depth: Select the page depth to search against. By default, all pages within a given URL are searched against.
Selecting "Medium" or "Shallow" will narrow the search to fewer pages. Selecting "Surface" will limit
the search to the first page of a site exclusively.
