Morgan Lewis Bockius is a law firm headquartered in Philadelphia, United States. It was founded on Marche 10, 1873. The founders of this firm were Charles Eldridge Morgan, Jr., a veteran of the Civil War and Francis Draper Lewis, who was the son of a cotton merchant. The firm’s fortunes had a positive change when they hired Morris Rex Bockius in 1883. Bockius was the most dominant figure of the firm for the first quarter of the 20^th century. Fifteen years after joining the firm he became partner, changing the name of the firm to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
 
One of the firm’s biggest clients initially was the United Gas Improvement Company (UGI). UGI became the largest company of gas and electric utility all across the United States. At present, Morgan Lewis Bockius has about 1,300 lawyers employed in 22 offices all over the world. They specialize in providing clients of all sizes in all the major industries with transactional, labor/employment, litigation, intellectual property and regulatory legal services. Their largest concentration of lawyers is in East Coast states, with over 700 in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York combined. Out of the remainder, 70 lawyers are residing in Dallas and Houston combined and another 250 in California.
 
After the financial meltdown in Wall Street last decade, Morgan Lewis Bokius had to lay off 55 attorneys and another 161 support staff. However, the firm stabilized expediently and currently employees a total of 3,000 professionals. Besides having a wide spread presence in the United States, the firm also has international offices abroad in countries like Beijing, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Tokyo.

The clientele includes over half of the total Fortune 100 companies. To date, over 2,000 clients have used their services for over 5 years.
